Weekly Update – Sep 17 2018

Dear ASA Families:

One full week down and great news — things are still going well! It has been a challenging start to the school year with some unforeseen changes but with the hard work of the teaching and support staff and the overwhelming support of the parents, the students have had a wonderful start to school. I want to thank everyone for their supportive words and willingness to help out during this time. It is that sense of community that makes ASA a wonderful place. Here are some of the news and notes for this week:

  • I have interviewed and identified a candidate that I will offer the Pre K position. Please keep the candidate in your prayers as she decides if the position is the right fit for her. I expect an announcement in the next few days.
  • I have hired another aide for After School Care, we are waiting for the pre start paperwork like background checks to return before I can start her. I expect the clearances sometime this week. I am still looking for some additional help in After School Care. Please join me in thanking Ms. Hoyler, Ms. Gilboy and Mrs. Horton for stepping in and helping out in Stay and Play. As some of you know, the start of the year can be very busy for teachers, especially ones that are new to the school or teaching new subjects this year. Once again, thank you for showing us how and why ASA is special.
  • Our clubs will begin soon and they will have a little different look this year. In order to offer the clubs to all children, they will be offered during the normal school day. As you know, we have a thirty minute (30) period at the end of each school day. On Tuesdays, Mrs. Broderick will offer Rosary Club from 1:55-2:20 and on Wednesdays, she will offer Recorder Club from 1:55-2:20. Chorus and Song Leaders will remain during the lunch period this year. I have attached interest forms to this email.
  • Music Lessons will begin on October 11th. The lessons are open to all interested students in grades 3-8. Lessons will take place in school during the day on Thursdays. The registration form is attached.
  • Piano lessons will also begin in early October. I am working with the piano teacher to get out registration forms this week. She will be accepting new students in grades 3-8. Lessons will take place on Fridays during the school day.
  • Soccer shots begin on Monday, September 17 and Wednesday, September 19, 2018. The younger group (ages 3-5) will meet on Mondays and the older group (ages 6-8) will meet on Wednesdays. The club will meet from 2:30-3:15.
  • There was an error in the rate listed for school lunches this year:
    • LUNCH – $3.75 – includes main entrée, fruit/veggie and milk
    • Milk – $0.75 – chocolate or 1% white milk
  • I am still looking for help during the lunch period. I have started a sign up genius that will be updated monthly. If you are available to help, please sign up using the link below:
